HOW TO BE SURE YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN

A.     WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?:

            (The Word Means Good News) 

Key Scripture (I Cor. 15: 1-7; Col.1:21-23)

1. The Death – Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures

2. The Burial – That Christ was buried

3. The Resurrection – That Christ was raised according to the scriptures

THE ABC’s OF BECOMING A CHRISTIAN

Let’s use the ABC’s to show how one can be sure of being a Christian and how to lead someone else in becoming a Christian.

A-ADMIT

Confess to God that you are sinner. Repent, turning away from your sin and turning toward God. (Romans: 3:23; 5:12; Acts: 2:38; 3;19; Luke 15:17)  Repent – The word means to think differently about something or to reconsider.

B-BELIEVE

Believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and accept God’s gift of forgiveness from sin. (St. John 1:12; 3:16; Romans 5:8)

C-CONFESS

Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (Romans 10:9-10,13)

A.   Every Christian Can Be Sure Of Their Salvation

1. As a Christian sometimes you may wonder whether or not you are really saved. There are times when externally we may not think or feel like we are Christians, and may not sense the presence of God. During these times Satan will be quick to tell us that we are not even saved.

2. He especially likes to suggest this after we have sinned to get us to  doubt that we are really Christians and just give up.

B. Being A Christian Is Not Based On What You Think Or Feel

1. According to the word of God when we have admitted (repented), believed and confessed Jesus as our Savior and Lord, then we are born again.   But the question is; which part of us is really born again?

2. Spirit – According to the Word of God the spirit part of us is the part that is born again. (Eze. 36:26, St. John  3:3-6; II Cor. 5:17); The spirit part of us is the part that communicates and relates to God.

3. Soul – The make -up the soul is the mind, the will and emotions. The soul is not born again, but is renewed through the process of sanctification (walking in the Spirit and obeying the Word)

4. Body – Communicates with the physical world by-way of the five senses (hearing, sight, touch, taste, smell)  The body is not born again, but has to be brought under the discipline of the spirit by-way of the word of God.

I know I’m Born Again By The Witness Of The Spirit

The way in which a person can be assured they are born again is by the spirit of God witnesssing (telling) with their spirit. (Romans 8:16)

I know I’m Born Again By The Witness Of The Word

I have assurance that I am born again because the Word tells me I am,  and not because of what I think or feel or see regarding myself. (St, John 1:12; 6:37; Colossians 1:14 I John 5:11-13; Hebrews 13:5)
